Kraikein's News

Posted by Kraikein - December 30th, 2024

Well, it's that time of the year again folks... that time being the end. Now as for myself, this year has been I think one of the rockiest in a while. I mean granted, it started and ended in peak with me watching Godzilla Minus One and Sonic 3 in theaters, so I guess the beginning and end from that standpoint are pretty good.

So what stuff did I do this year? Well quite a bit of things, but not as much as I'd like to have.

First up I got my first animated commission ever! Was a genuine surprised and am eternally thankful to have one to begin with

What else? Well been helping my pal Midgetsausage as an editor for his webcomic Cooper Bullet (personally I still call it Copper Bullet, but that's more my own preference)

Latest issue is right down here (ironically the one I had the least involvement with helping editorialize)

Also had the opportunity to be apart of the Pokeginjika collab hosted by @KittyHawkMontrose, thanks again for the opportunity!

Also had the glorious opportunity to contribute to Sonic Shorts Vol 14. I'm gonna be real, if you told me 10 years ago (14 year old me basically) that I'd be doing something for that, I don't think I would have believed you

Special thanks to @RGPAnims, @ter0nik, and @thewax70 for this opportunity, seriously you guys rock!

Other than those major ones, done a lot more doodling and sketching. Also got a kitten by the name of Frankie, he's approaching 6 months old as I type this out and he's an adorable handful.

And been getting back more into 3D modeling, with my most recent one being a Rouge model that I actually textured and don't hate! Usually stink with text

iu_1326670_6039044.webpiu_1326671_6039044.webpiu_1326672_6039044.webpiu_1326673_6039044.webpiu_1326674_6039044.webpiu_1326675_6039044.webp

So yeah been having fun with that! I'm planning on doing Shadow and Omega next. Then eventually the whole Sonic Heroes cast, then any other misc characters I wish to do.

Also plan on doing a comic that's essentially an alt universe version of MHA, with the first issue coming out... well I had planned by the end of this year, but def sometime next year if I'm being real. Not used to doing comics, so that'll be an interesting experience.

Now with all of those positives out of the way, I might as well get into the negatives of this year, which have been pretty harsh.

I ended up losing both my grandparents this year. My grandmother in March, my Grandfather later that May. It was so... sudden ya know? I mean both had deteriorated in health for quite some time, my grandpa had gotten Parkinson's years beforehand, cause he was a welder for Ford since the 60s and he had been breathing in a shit ton of chemicals for literal decades daily. He ended up developing dementia I believe, it got so bad that he had forgotten to chew his food and swallow it and he'd choke on it by accident.

Even expecting the loss of someone, you never quite really expect it when it happens you know? And I have to admit, I feel very complicated about my grandma, because while I have these warm and fond memories of her as a kid, the warmness kind of disappeared the older I got and realized what kind of person she was. Wish it wasn't complicated, but that's just how it is with some people.

Losing them kind of fucked with my subconscious, because for a period I felt like that I was going to die any second and that I was doomed. If I don't make something soon, I'd lose everything.

And look, I prefer not to discuss politics because quite frankly they're arbitrary and basically team sports in the US, but this presidential election was like a punch to the gut. I woke up at 4:30 AM that morning needing to vomit, and then saw the notification on my phone, almost as if my body knew before I did. Was a genuine sobbing wreck, feeling absolute hopelessness and despair.

After a bit, I did calm down, checked in with family and friends who were feeling the same, and decided to just check out for a bit. I'm going to try to focus more on local stuff because that's something I can actually control, and I feel like that eventually it will work in the long run. Can also say whatever bad shit happens the next 4 years, I didn't vote for it.

My mental health has been ebbing and flowing, but hey you know what, can get thorough this. People before me did with even less resources, so blasting Alright by Kendrick's a good way to get through the bad shit.

Now that we've gotten the Debbie Downer parts out of the way, what next? Well here's my new resolutions for the next year.

MAKE MORE SHIT

Along with that MHA comic, I plan on doing another Sonic Short, as well as some documentaries/video essays on my YT channel. I got one in the pipeline about King Kong's stupidly complicated copyright situation and history (seriously it is fuckin bonkers). Also just need to stop worrying and just post stuff, more finished art in general and experimenting more.

Also gonna do more NSFW stuff because been learning more human anatomy and well... look it's fun okay? Don't judge me lol

BEING MORE SOCIAL

Now this year been a bit more social with peeps than usual, exploring new places and horizons, and meeting some really cool people throughout the year. But I can always go further beyond; I'm gonna try to make it to more NG meetups and Pico Day, just a matter of figuring out when and where is all.

So that kind of wraps up my 2 goals... I mean hey it's 2 goals, but hey easier to have smaller goals I can accomplish than listing a hundred goals I know I can't even come close to finishing.

But before I end the yap fest, lemme just give some shoutouts to pals that have been with me throughout the year and were very supportive and helpful

@9Hammer

@Tappywara (dude's got incredible music taste and chill sagely advice)

@IkkoArts

@Broly

@Tyro1301

@Chdonga

@MrPakoman

@Showaflow

@Kolani

@Linethickness

@Lucasdotjpeg

@Tiltro

@SomeApe

@KittyhawkMontrose

There's a lot more people, online and IRL, but honestly that list is too long to go with.

Thank you for everyone that likes my art, or finds my stuff interesting, it's really appreciated!. I'm cautiously optimistic for 2025, but I'm gonna try to live it best I can and then go on from there.

See ya next year! (Yes that's corny I know but had to at least once)

Well friends, this may be a bit silly and gay as hell but fuck it, might as well do a year end retrospection... That is if there's anything to actually go over.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, I'm both disappointed and proud of myself at the same time for my output of work on here this year. It's contradicting. I'm disappointed in the lack of output I've had this year, but the stuff I have posted out here on the web I am kind of proud with.

The big one I'm proud of is a whole ass documentary. Yeah, dead serious. I spent 2 and a half years on this thing. What's it about? Song of the South.

https://youtu.be/1XC16QNUjxs?si=juEv4ZazJi4N88jj

I normally don't wanna link stuff from other sites on NG, but think this one is an exception. It's funny, I went into this thinking I'd find a clear cut example of Walt Disney being a racist, but no I did not. I came out with a lot more nuance than I expected, I made this purely to give people the facts and let them decide as to whether or not it is offensive.

I feel pretty proud tbh, tho making that was hell. I mean to give reference on time, in the time I made that documentary I moved into my first apartment and got a new job. It's gonna be a while before I make something like that again.

That was the big example of the "main" thing I made for this year. I did make some more animations, experimenting with holding more on frames and more animating on threes and fours for certain actions on that.

I gotta seriously thank Crashgen for that, dude is a lifesaver and I hope whereever the guy is, he's doing fantastic. I damn well know his cartoons this year made me laugh.

But yeah I'm not exactly happy with how slow my output has been in regards to this year. Compared to last year, feels like the train just derailed. That's mainly due to more personal stuff, which I don't wanna disclose online, but regardless I do know I need to make more art out there, art that I'm proud of. I keep coming up with ideas for projects but not going through with them, that changes now. 2024, I will definitely be making more stuff than I did this year.

But I will say one thing I'm glad I did this year was this little comic

It's nothing huge or extravagent, hell made it in like 2 days or so, but I was more proud of the idea and execution of it. It was kind of a test to see if I got the chops for when it comes to writing things, especially things that have an actual meaning to them. Funny enough, was kind of meant to be critical of myself.

But yeah, I appreciate the people that look at and enjoy my stuff. Genuinely it is really nice to know that there's people out there that love my stuff. It really is appreciated. To my friends and family, I thank you for all the support you've given me this year, lord knows I've definitely been a pain in the ass to deal with at times. I appreciate the pateince you guys have. And I'm sorry for not being that active with keeping up with some friends, that's on me. Life gets in the way sometimes, and I've been pretty shit in regards to communication/keeping up.

That will change this year.

I got a lot of high hopes for 2024. Hopes for myself and the people around me. Bit early but hey, better to do it now than never.

Happy New Years to us all! God bless you all, Tom Fulp and Newgrounds as a whole! Life wouldn't be the same without you guys

Man, it's pretty funny seeing Twitter implode on itself. Granted a little worrying about the terminally online people festering to other corners of the online space, but hey is what it is.

In all seriousness tho, I do love using Newgrounds. Keeping a small-town vibe is a million times better than trying to appeal to everyone and then eventually no one.

As for why I haven't really posted much art or animation? Life my man, life. More stuff will be coming sooner rather than later... I hope that is.

I do have one question before I peace out, would anyone be interested in commissioning me for art and animations? Gotta admit, would be interesting to see if people would want that.

Well since some of my friends are making end-of-the-year news posts, figured I might as well too, as a way to cap off this year.

SO, how did this year go? Well, one of my goals was to post more shit to my Newgrounds and looking at it compared to last year, yep I actually succeeded.iu_512446_6039044.png

Not too bad I'd say. Hell I somehow got Frontpaged for the first time this year.

Have I gotten better at art? On one hand, I'd like to say maybe, but on the other, it wasn't any HUGE improvements or anything. I'd say it was pretty minimal overall, I'm still pretty lacking on fundamentals like anatomy and perspective. Still no where near anywhere I'd say I'm good.

I hosted a little collab with my good friend Tacopug in celebration for Godzilla vs Kong's release earlier this year.

Little collab involving animated entries from good friends like LobsterMango, Joe-Mega, and my special boyo TeaButt

And some music by Midgetsauasge for my part

Did some more collabs like the birthday collab for StaggerNight and the FINALLY released Christmas Collab hosted by RGPAnims

But was it really all I wanted? No not really. I wanted to release a lot more cartoons but life got in the way, and I'm still trying to improve my art fundamentals and finding animation jobs. Latter has been extremely difficult, and I feel it's directly related to the former.

Now that I've gotten advice from plenty of people, including Crashgen, think the thing to do is this: study anatomy but also actually do projects I want to do. I noticed from years past I had put off animating to focus on strengthening fundamentals, and I feel doing that has lessened my output.

I am a better animator than I am an illustrator, not saying I'm good there's a lot of flaws with my animations.

Realistically this ain't nowhere near the peak of my artistic endeavors, so I gotta stop stressing about it.

Next year I hope to release a Sonic short I've been developing since summer of this year.

As well as possible adaptations of Alice in Wonderland and A Christmas Carol, as I enjoy both stories.

Maybe even an adaptation of Batman Hush, be better than DC's shit movie of it.

And now we get to the sappy stuff.

To my friends, I thank you all so much for even wanting to be my friend to begin with. Because to be quite frank, I am a certified, home-made, all American annoying cunt. So for that I cherise the friendships and support I have recieved this year. Wendigo, Teabutt, Jatmoz, Crashgen, Midgetsausage, Smallphroge, 0chin, RedAndrew, Tacopug, PKToasty, Meulinex, LobsterMango, Kolani, Joe-Mega, Holden, Pyro, MKMaffo, and so many more cool people!

I wish us all a Happy New Year!

Also god bless Tom Fulp

Howdy doodly doo everyone. Currently storyboarding a project, and figure might as well actually use the news post feature here.

I usually post stuff in the Incremental Improvement Club in the Clubs n Crews section, but might as well interact more with people who enjoy my stuff for whatever reason here and now.

So with my projects n art n people enjoying it, I have a question: would anyone like to commission art from me? Genuinely, asking because I've wondered how successful it would be as well as actually wanting to make some money off me work, y'know?

I'll post more when I get that project more completed, but until then, I'll see you in the next vid, see you later bros. Baaaahaaaahhiiiiiiiiii
